A multi-month investigation of heroin trafficking in Brookhaven town by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Heroin Task Force has resulted in the arrests of four people living in a Port Jefferson Station home located across the street from a middle school, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said today.
Task Force agencies executed a search warrant on Monday, April 4 at 171 Jayne Boulevard, a two-story house across from the John F. Kennedy Middle School, and seized a quantity of raw heroin, 100 grams of crack, 50 grams of powdered cocaine, and scales, wax packets, and other heroin packaging supplies District Attorney Spota said.
Arrested at the scene was Terrill E. Simmons, 38, who is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of marijuana, two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, endangering the welfare of a child and tampering with physical evidence. The latter charge was lodged when task force detectives entered the house and found Simmons flushing heroin down the toilet.
Also charged are Daniel Dumas, 48, and his 27-year-old son, Daryl. Daniel Dumas is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia. Daryl Dumas is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, five counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree, one count of criminal sale of a controlled substance in or near school grounds, and two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
Moneke Alexander, 38, of 30 East 7th Street, East Providence Rhode Island, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of marijuana, two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Arraigned in Central Islip on Wednesday, April 6, each defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Moneke Alexander is being held in the county jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond, Daniel Dumas is incarcerated in lieu of $35,000 cash bail or $70,000 bond, Daryl Dumas is in the county jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond and Terrill Simmons is being held in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
DA Spota said investigators found most of the heroin, crack, and powdered cocaine stored in boxes in Alexander’s child’s room next to the 2-year-old toddler’s bed, resulting in the endangering the welfare of a child charges. The child is now in the care of Suffolk County Child Protective Services.
“Dealing drugs across the street from a school and the storage of these dangerous narcotics within feet of a child’s bed tell you all you need to know about these defendants’ disregard for everything other than getting and selling heroin and other drugs,” DA Spota said. “The shutdown of this operation is good news for the community.”
