TOP 50 COLLEGE EDUCATION PROGRAMS

By MARK WOODSON

Value Colleges, an independent online guide to the best values in undergraduate and graduate college education, has released the Top 50 Best Value Education Programs of 2016. The ranking highlights residential bachelor degree programs in education that have a strong reputation and a reasonable tuition rate to offer a degree with proven job market value.

There is nothing rare about an education degree, editor Carrie Sealey-Morris explains, “Many colleges and universities today began as simple ‘normal schools,’ academies to train public school teachers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.”

A strong education program, that not only gives future teachers a strong grounding in theory and practice but also leads to certification, typically includes a residential program. Due to this requirement, most students find it more convenient to attend a college or university in their home state. Value Colleges’ rankings help direct students to the most affordable colleges in their state and across the nation.

The best value for 2016 was Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg, ID, followed by the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, and California State University-Long Beach in Long Beach, CA.

Rankings are based on data from the U.S. News & World Report ranking, PayScale, and tuition information (according to the institutional websites). To see the rest of the schools included in the ranking see: http://www.valuecolleges.com/rankings/best-education-programs-of-2016/
