By ROCCO ARTESIAN

The New York State Department of Health and Office of Mental Health awarded a substantial, multi-year grant to the Tompkins County Mental Health Department. This was delivered yesterday in an effort to assist the department’s Open Access Program.

According to a press release issued by the Tompkins County public information officer, “The nearly $700,000 grant, awarded under the State’s Vital Access Provider (VAP) program, will fully fund three new positions at the Mental Health Department—a Psychiatric Social Worker, Community Mental Health Nurse, and Casework Assistant, including related expenses—to provide coordination, support, and management of the open access/intake process, with the new staff working together as a monitoring and tracking team for the program, and the professional staff also providing direct service.”
